About UEAPride

Welcome to UEAPride

Hi – I’m Hayley. I’m the President of UEAPride for this year, as well as being the Union’s LGBT Officer. It is my job to represent lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trans students at UEA.

February is LGBT History Month, a celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans peoples’ contribution to history and culture and how far we’ve come in the fight for liberty and equality. We’ll have lots of events planned for the month, so watch this website!

UEAPride is the Union’s peer support group for anyone dealing with sexuality or gender identity issues of any kind. UEAPride organises a calendar of social events for LGBT students and has a network of welfare officers to support UEA students through sexuality and gender issues.

I look forward to meeting you all soon!

FAQs

How much does it cost to join UEAPride?
Nothing. UEAPride is a peer support group, therefore we do not charge any membership fee and therefore we don’t have an official member list like other societies.

Why the name “UEAPride” and not LGBT?
Whilst the umbrella term LGBT is widely used around the world, we feel that often sexuality and gender is a rather complex issue and some people feel forced to self define as something they are not. The term UEAPride was chosen to make the group more inclusive to everyone, rather than a group exclusively for LGBT students.

Who can take part?
We welcome all UEA Students and their friends to our events and services. You are not required to self-define as lesbian, gay, bisexual or trans to take part.

I really want to come to an event but I feel too shy to do so, what can I do?
First of all, many people can be shy about coming to a group like ours. Our team of welfare officers can chat to you or arrange a place to meet beforehand. Contact them at welfare@ueapride.co.uk. You are also more than welcome to bring a friend with you.
