As part of LGBT History Month, there is a special careers event aimed at LGBT students.

Should you mention your LGBT-related activities on job applications or in interviews? How do you come out at work? You’ll be able to discuss these issues, and more!

This is a great event organised by the UEA Staff Pride network as part of their LGBT history month series of talks and events.

The talk will be conducted by Anne Hillary, from the Careers Centre and has been put in place with students in mind and will undoubtedly be an interesting and informative session- so do come along.

The Facebook event for information can be found here.

In the United Kingdom, LGBT History Month is observed during February, to coincide with a major celebration of the 2005 abolition of Section 28, which had the effect of prohibiting schools from discussing LGBT issues or counselling LGBT or questioning youth.

We have three social events for LGBT History Month, including two trips to the city and our popular club night on campus – Liberate!

There are loads of events going on around the UEA and in Norwich as well.

We’re working on making an ‘It Gets Better’ style video about students from the UEA during LGBT History month. If you’d like more information, click here.

Around Norwich, there is a 5-a-side football tournament being held on Sunday 19th February as part of the ‘Kick Homophobia out of Football’ campaign and a screening of the Tomboy film in Cinema City on the 21st February. The Sing with Pride choir are performing on 29th February at Jurnets Bar.

There are also a number of public lectures being held in the UEA, ranging from ‘Trans History’ to the author Diana Souhami on her work writing books about LGBT people. Keep an eye out for posters around the UEA campus celebrating LGBT people’s achievments over history and for slides on the TVs in the bars.

As ever, you can keep up with events by visiting this website, or chatting to us on Facebook and Twitter or email.
