Getting involved in the running of a society is a very enriching experience, in doing so you will acquire great new skills and qualities. UEAPride needs a new committee next year who coordinates everything we do. Got ideas for events? New ideas? Know how to get people more involved? There are various positions on offer which are open to all.
If you'd like to run, see the attached nomination form. Complete this form by Friday 5th March (week 8). If you have any questions about the roles, email secretary@ueapride.co.uk or speak to any of the current committee members. Elections will be held on Thursday 12th March. Voting will be open from Wednesday 11th at lunchtime.
Roles available:
President, Secretary, Treasurer, Events Coordinator, Communication Officer, Web Editor, 5 Welfare Officers
Training will be given. Web editor can be combined with communications officer, events coordinator or secretary - so you can run for more than one position in this case.
Summary of roles:
President : You will be responsible for the overall direction of the committee; you will chair committee meetings and liaise with the LGBT officer.
Secretary: You will handle all email inquiries, maintain the mailing list, take minutes at committee meetings and manage our LGBT library of books, dvds and magazines. The secretary traditionally represents the Society on Union Council-but this can be changed. Union Council meets every few weeks during term time.
Treasurer: You will work out the year’s budget and ensure that we keep afloat; you may also have great fundraising ideas too. If you’re money-wise then this is the job for you!
Events coordinator: If you’re a social butterfly, have some great event ideas and have a good knowledge of the various venues around Norwich, this is the spot for you! You’ll be responsible for organizing our events but you’ll be assisted in running and promoting them.
Communications officer: You will be responsible for publicity and ensuring everyone knows about UEAPride. You will know how to design effective, eye catching posters that reach a huge audience around campus.
Web editor: You’ll be responsible for managing this website and our overall online presence (Facebook, Twitter). Some experience of running a website would be preferred.
5 Welfare officers : You will be a sign-posting and listening service to those in need of some support regarding sexuality and gender. You will not be expected to give advice, but will be able to lead them in the right direction. If you’re a good listener this is an ideal position. There are there five positions available, people have a choice of who wish to talk to.
1 position to be filled by a man, 1 position to be filled by a woman, 2 open- place positions available to any gender, 1 trans place (does not have to self-define as trans, but should be familiar with trans issues.)
